From Fear to Leadership
I am excited to share with you the transformative journey that led me from a place of fear and self-doubt to becoming a confident leader.
When I stepped into the corporate world I was quite strong in my technical skills and yet I hit a big roadblock because my communication skills weren’t up to the mark. Actually, I was poor in communication skills.
The Discovery
The consequences of this gap were profound and had a deeply personal impact on my professional journey.
For the longest time I believed that effective communication skills were something you were born with. Either had it or you didn’t. So I carried the fear of speaking up and the limiting belief that I was not naturally gifted in this area and therefore cannot be good at communication. I used to believe this wholeheartedly.
Stuck in these two mindsets, I found myself unable to open my mouth to express my thoughts and ideas. It felt as if my tongue was tied every time I had an opportunity to speak.
The Heartbreaking Impact
The consequences of my fear and limited communication skills were disheartening.
- I was never chosen to be part of any key project.
- I was never chosen for important presentations.
- Promotions seemed out of reach. I watched my peers with lesser technical expertise, but stronger communication skills move ahead while I remained stagnant. It was heartbreaking.
- I could not express myself and had poor interpersonal relationships with my colleagues.
- My true potential remained unrecognised. It left me feeling overlooked and undervalued.
The frustration was a constant reminder that my potential was being stifled by my own limitations.
It was a challenging time, and I knew something had to change.
